When you sign up for lessons, you book in for a specific weekly time slot. Most commonly, September through June, as the Upbeat Music Academy follows the “school calendar”.

Lesson fees are either payable IN FULL for the entire year in advance of starting your lessons, or you have the option of choosing an averaged monthly pre-authorized payment either through your credit card, eTransfer or cash. Please note: casual cash payments are not available.

Here is an average breakdown for a private 30 minute lesson starting in September and ending at the end of June:

  • Lump Sum: 38 x $30 + $50 = $1140 (38 lessons times $30/lesson)

  • Monthly: 38 x $30 = $1140 divided by 10 months ($114.00 per month)

These amounts will vary depending on instructor price, length of lesson, start date and weekday. (Monday, Friday and Saturdays are generally less expensive because of Holidays).

All lessons are to be pre paid (in advance) before lessons begin.

On average 8 or 9 years old depending on their hand size, but as soon as a child is big enough to hold a Saxophone and be able to reach the keys with their fingers, then they’re ready.

All instruments must be supplied by the client for lessons and practice at home, due to hygiene and maintenance. If you need an instrument, please contact your local Music store.

  • Your Saxophone
  • Method book(s), reeds, neck strap, sheet music, worksheets, lesson binder/notebook for lessons and assignments
  • Even though I’m equipped with my own computer, tablet or mobile phone which will have access to Youtube, if the student is wanting to learn or needs help with a particular song by ear, please bring your device the song is on (iPad, Cel Phone, Etc.).
  • If it’s your first Saxophone lesson with us and you have taken lessons before, please bring any previous learning material to your lesson.

Absolutely!

We love teaching Adults!

I’ve had students into their early 90’s learning how to play the saxophone! It’s never too late!

Music has so many benefits for the brain. Not only is it a way to keep yourself busy, relieve stress or revisit songs from you past (or present), Music is also good as medicine. Read a bit more about that on my blog here.

  • Missed lessons happen from time to time. We do have options like:
    • Online lesson (ZOOM)
    • Extending a lesson (schedule permitting)
    • Rescheduling the lessons for another day (schedule permitting)Keep in mind there are no paid lessons over Christmas holidays or Spring break so make up lessons can be arranged at those times as well. See Lora’s  lesson policies for more information.
  • Please keep in mind, you as the client are buying the instructor’s time; you are not buying the lesson.
  • If you forget or choose not to come, regardless of circumstance, you have still paid for your instructor’s time. That said, we will do what we can to provide a make up lesson.
  • There are no refunds for missed lessons.
  • The Instructor is not obligated to supply make-up lessons or credits but may do so at his or her discretion.
  • All make-up lessons promised by your instructor must be completed by the end of June.
  • If your lesson is cancelled by the instructor, your time will be rescheduled.
  • If your instructor can not reschedule a lesson due to their absence, the lesson will be refunded.

If you want to get good, you need to put in the time.

Many of us are used to instant gratification now a days. Please understand you will get out of the piano what you put into it time wise.  The more consistently you practice, the better you’ll get.

On average, 30 minutes of practice or more a day depending on the level the student is what is needed.

That said most younger students will need to ease into it.

With younger students, start with 10 minutes 4-5 days a week and then increase the practice time slowly till you can get to 20 or 30 minutes a day.

Set a daily time to get in the habit of practicing. For example: After dinner, as soon as you get home from school or a set time 4-4:30pm.

If you do this 5 days a week, take the weekend off.

First off, we’ll miss you!

Two lessons notice must be provided for withdrawal. Immediate withdrawal is subject to a two lesson cancellation fee. The Upbeat Music Academy reserves the right to terminate lesson contracts on unpaid accounts.

In case interest is waining, please keep in mind that we teach other instruments too like Guitar, Bass, and Ukulele
